A brave golden retriever, Kelsey, has saved her owner’s life when he slipped and fell in the snow, breaking his neck and leaving him paralyzed.
Clever pup Kelsey kept her owner, known only as Bob, warm by lying on him and licked his hands and face to keep him conscious when he fell on New Year’s Eve.
Bob had gone out to get a log for his fireplace, wearing only his pajamas, when he fell. He was unable to move, lying in the snow in freezing temperatures.
“She kept barking for help, but never left my side,” explained Bob, “She kept me warm and alert. I knew I had to persevere through this and that it was my choice to stay alive.”
When Bob was found he had lost consciousness, but Kelsey continued to bark until help arrived — 20 hours later.
“She was letting out this screeching howl that alerted my neighbor. He found me at 6.30pm on New Year’s Day.”
The hospital performed life-saving surgery on Bob and called his recovery, which will require physical therapy, “miraculous”.
“I am so thankful for my two heroes,” said Bob, “Kelsey kept me warm, alert, and never stopped barking for help. Dr. Colen saved my life and ability to move. They are truly heroes and I will be eternally grateful.”
