Alien-like and otherworldly, these weird and wonderful mushrooms have been captured by Australian photographer Steve Axford.
He has made it his mission to document some of the world’s most obscure fungi found in locations around Australia.
Many of these beautiful shots were taken a stones throw from his home in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales.
The Northern Rivers was once a huge area of uninterrupted subtropical, lowland rainforest.
Some pretty ethereal fungi grow in this area.
Axford suspects that many of his finds are undocumented by scientists.
