Ingenious Teacher Puts Cycling Machines Under Students’ Desks To Channel Their Energy In A Different Way

If there’s one thing teachers know, it’s that there’s nothing more difficult than getting a class of hyperactive younguns to focus on one subject for an entire hour.

Difficult, but apparently not impossible, as proven by Wake County teacher Bethany Lambeth. Her subject being maths — infamous for its kid-repelling characteristics — Lambeth decided to find a solution once and for all.

The North Carolina resident put cycling machines under each of her student’s desks to get them to stop fidgeting and start focusing.

“Before they were drumming on their desks, they were touching other people, they don’t do that anymore,” Lambeth said. “Their feet are getting the movement out. There has been a huge increase in the quality of our student’s work and a decrease in the amount of missing work.”

Not only is it working, the kids get to enjoy studying and exercising at the same time. Said one student: “It keeps me exercising and focused.”

Another student, who pedaled 5.5 miles and burned 133 calories before 10 a.m, said: “I’m a really energetic person, so this takes all my energy out.”

Each desk cycle has a hefty price tag of $150, but if it gets the job done, it’s a price worth paying.
