Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden criticized the Trump administration for its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Biden announced that if elected, he would rejoin the WHO on his first day in office.
“Americans are safer when America is engaged in strengthening global health. On my first day as President, I will rejoin the @WHO and restore our leadership on the world stage,” Biden tweeted.
On Tuesday, the U.S. submitted its withdrawal notification to the United Nations secretary-general. Since a withdrawal request requires one year’s notice, it will only take effect on July 6, 2021.
