Florida now has more than 269,000 total cases of the coronavirus, according to the state Health Department.

Florida Health officials announced that the state now has more than 269,000 total cases of the coronavirus. On Sunday, Florida added 15,300 new cases to its coronavirus toll, the highest single-day number so far.

The Sunshine State now has the highest single-day record in the U.S. and is at the center of the pandemic. The health department notes that there are 18,000 people being treated for the coronavirus in its hospitals.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has yet to issue an order for the mandatory wearing of face masks but says local officials can decide what to do.

“We have a situation where you’ve got a lot of beds available. No major system, nobody that we’ve seen yet, has even gone to the surge level,” he said.

Over the weekend, parkgoers trooped to Disney World as reopened parts of its Orlando park. Disney said park guests, staff, and entertainers are required to wear face masks all the time.
