Katy Perry Refuses to Hire Full-Time Nanny for Daughter

Pop sensation Katy Perry doesn’t want to delegate parenthood to her nanny entirely.

This week, the 37-year-old singer discussed parenting from her point of view during an interview on the “SmartLess” podcast.

“I am working a lot, and I’ve always worked a lot,” Perry said. “I have a wonderful nanny, but I don’t have a full-time nanny because I feel like if I had a full-time nanny, then I would never be able to know how to care for my daughter like I’m meant to.”

Perry continued explaining to the audience how she wakes up early with her daughter Daisy Dove, who just turned two, and goes about daily activities like any other mother would.

“It doesn’t matter if I’ve had a show that goes to 11 p.m. the night before, I’m waking up at 6 o’clock, and we’re gonna go and do breakfast,” she said. “And yes, I have the no-sleep shakes, but I’m doing mom mode today.”

The “Fireworks” singer and her fiancé Orlando Bloom had a daughter together. She talked about how Perry gets upset since Daisy quickly picks up new phrases throughout the conversation.

“She’s 2, so she’s at the point where she’s saying new words every day,” she said. “And the other day she was saying some words that I didn’t teach her, and I was like ‘Damn it. That doesn’t feel good.’”

Perry had already discussed how she viewed her mothering responsibilities.

“I try to start my day out with my daughter, playing and having some floor time with her. Reading some books. It usually varies what time we’re waking up, 7 or 8 a.m,” Perry told the Wall Street Journal in November 2021. “Sometimes I get to sleep in and Daddy takes her until 9, which is super. But we do breakfast together.”

In addition to spending time with her kid, Perry has talked about how Hollywood doesn’t accurately depict most of the country. The media previously covered the pop star’s relocation to Kentucky and her gaining perspective.

“I’m like, living in Kentucky, and I have for almost a month now. And that’s quite an amazing experience. Because it reminds you that Hollywood is not America,” Perry told Chelsea Handler during an interview in May. She described Los Angeles as a “bubble.”

“You need to remember that,” Perry continued. “Because I think you can understand people better.”
