President Donald Trump said Sunday the shooter who ambushed two Los Angeles County sheriffs in Compton deserves the death penalty.

“If they die, fast trial death penalty for the killer,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Only way to stop this!”

The president also commented “Animals that must be hit hard!” as he shared a video of the shooting incident.

As the search continued for the gunman, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department announced a $100,000 reward for information.

The shooter was described as Black man between 28-30 years old. Authorities say he was wearing dark clothing and was last seen going northbound on Willowbrook Avenue in a black four-door sedan.

Police were not able to get a detailed description of the shooter. They also cautioned that the surveillance video released from the scene used a fisheye lens so the suspect’s height and weight may be slightly distorted from reality.

Governor  Gavin Newsom condemned the ambush shooting as a “cowardly, horrific act” and offered prayers for the recovering deputies.
