The lawyer representing the family of missing Fort Hood soldier Vannesa Guillen said the Army has confirmed the identity of the recovered remains.
In a statement, Atty. Natalie Khawam said, “The Army has confirmed that the bones, hair and other remains found are Vanessa Guillen. We are at a loss for words.”
The Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has been handling the case of the 20-year old soldier who has gone missing on April 22. She was last seen at the Texas Army base where she was assigned.
On June 30, CID investigators recovered human remains in a shallow grave some 20 miles away from their army base in Killeen, Texas.
The CID has yet to make a formal announcement on the identification.
The primary suspect in Guillen’s murder, Aaron David Robinson, committed suicide after being confronted by police.
His accomplice and rumored girlfriend Cecily Aguilar, 22, was arrested on July 1 and charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence.
She will be arraigned at a federal court in Waco, Texas, tomorrow.
