A 59-year-old man was having a heated argument with another passenger on a Manhattan train at around 11:15 PM on Saturday when it suddenly became violent.
In a video caught on camera by another passenger, the younger man stands up and angrily points at the 59-year-old. When the older man stands up in response, the attacker hit him on the head with a metal pipe.
After the assault, the attacker put his weapon into a hand truck and fled the area on foot. The authorities have not yet identified the attacker and have made no arrests.
The 59-year-old suffered a fractured skull and a broken eye socket, but is in stable condition. The suspect was reportedly panhandling before the verbal altercation.
It is not clear what the two men were arguing about. The victim was then taken to Bellevue Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The panhandler was said to have fled towards Chambers Street after fleeing the train. NYPD are now searching for a Hispanic man in his 20s who was last seen wearing a black cap, blue t-shirt, and dark pants.
