U.S. Records Nearly 100,000 Covid-19 Cases In A Day

The United States once again saw a record number of COVID-19 cases, where over 97,000 infections were reported according to NBC News’ tally

The last benchmark of 90,456 cases was hit on Thursday, just hours after the country logged its nine millionth coronavirus case and shattered the previous daily record of 80,662 infections, set a day earlier.

With Election Day now just days away, the staggering numbers stood in sharp contrast to President Trump’s repeated campaign claims that “we are rounding the turn” on the pandemic.

Covid-19 infections have been rapidly increasing across the United States at the fastest rate since the beginning of the pandemic, and just overnight, over 30 states reported having more than 1,000 new cases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has advised government officials to maintain COVID-19 testing positivity rates at 5% or lower for 14 days before reopening,

However, 35 states, including some of the key battlegrounds where Trump and Joe Biden are vying for votes, recorded dangerously high infection rates Friday, NBC News, and the Johns Hopkins Covid-19 tracking project reported.
