Next time you’re in Mexico, skip the tequila and visit Cenote Angelita (Little Angel) on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Because there you will find an incredible underwater river. The only catch is that you’ll have to scuba dive to see it.
These images have been captured by Russian photographer and adventurer Anatoly Beloshchin who went diving in cenotes — which are natural underground sink holes, created after cave walls have collapsed.
Beloshchin dived into the 200ft Angelita cenote, and found this amazing underwater river.
It even has sandy shores and is littered with fallen leaves.
The river is actually due to hydrogen sulfate mixing with saltwater causing it to be much heavier than regular salt water.
The mixture sinks to the bottom, forming a distinct separation that flows like a river.
