Drake loses $300,000 on ‘dumb’ soccer bet and everyone is saying the same thing

Drake is stirring up the social media scene again, and not for his music this time! He recently went viral for placing a rather risky bet, and let’s just say, the internet has thoughts.

Drake, a notorious betting enthusiast, is quite famous for wagering hefty sums on various sports events, from UFC fights to soccer matches. Seems like no game is off-limits for this chart-topping artist.

However, Drake’s betting spree comes with a notorious tag – the ‘Drake Curse’. This so-called curse implies that any team or player Drake supports is doomed to lose, and there’s quite a history of these predictions going awry.

In a surprising twist, December 2022 seemed to mark the end of the infamous curse when Drake bet on Argentina winning the football World Cup, and they clinched the title.

Yet, the curse narrative resurfaced after Drake made a jaw-dropping bet on Canada to triumph over Argentina in the Copa America tournament. Given his Canadian roots, his patriotic bet does strike a chord, but the choice left many fans baffled.

Despite the potential $2.8 million windfall from a $300,000 bet at odds of 9.6, the skepticisms were high and, unfortunately, Canada was defeated 2-0 by Argentina, leading to a flurry of reactions and memes online.

“Why in the world would he bet for CANADA against ARGENTINA, babe this is the furthest you’ve come to that cup,” one user exclaimed.

“This has to be one of the most dumb bet I’ve ever seen. He should’ve just gave me the money smh,” another chimed in.

“Rule 1: never bet against Messi. Rule 2: don’t forget rule 1,” someone else quipped.

“How can someone bet against Argentina when it comes to soccer!?,” another baffled fan commented.

The reactions weren’t all, as Drake also faces jabs due to his recent spat with hip-hop heavyweight Kendrick Lamar. With Argentina’s official account throwing shade using Kendrick’s diss track title in their victory post, it seemed the internet was having a field day at Drake’s expense.

Better luck next time, Drake. Maybe keeping those bold bets off the timeline could save some face next round!
