Live Off-Grid Anywhere In The World With This Tiny Wind And Solar Powered House

Imagine having the complete and utter freedom to live in the middle of an isolated valley or on top of a mountain with stunning panoramic views.

Well, it could soon be a reality thanks to the Ecocapsule: a new, teeny tiny smart home powered entirely by the sun and the wind.

The company behind the capsule, Nice Architect, call it “dwelling with the spirit of freedom.”

The pod fits two people and allows its inhabitants to live off the grid for up to a year. Each 14x7x7-foot unit comes with solar panels, a retractable wind-turbine, and the capacity to capture rainwater.

The company says the Ecocapsule has a “wide range of applications: from an independent research station or a tourist lodge to an emergency housing or a humanitarian-action unit.”

The pods can be shipped, airlifted, towed or even pulled by a pack animal.

The walls are padded with high performance thermal insulation to save energy and maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

Each pod comes fitted with a kitchenette with running water, a flushing toilet, and a hot shower.

Could this be the future?

The Ecocapsule will be available for pre-order at the end of 2015, with delivery in the first half of 2016. You can check out a display unit during the Pioneers festival in Vienna on 28-29 May.
