This is Dennis, an obese miniature dachshund from Columbus, Ohio, who less than two years ago weighed in at a massive 56 pounds.
To put that into perspective, the ‘little’ fella weighed as much as five normal dogs of the same breed. Dennis’ diet consisted mainly of fast food and pizza.
He could barely walk a few steps without having to stop and catch his breath, which made the him very lethargic.
His owner, nursing student Brooke Burton, adopted Dennis from a relative.
Burton put Dennis on a strict healthy diet, and began playing with him daily.
The diet worked so well that Dennis eventually had to have surgery to remove all of the excess skin.
“The more weight he lost the more of a problem the excess skin became. He was afraid to run and walk because he kept tripping over himself,” Burton said.
“After he lost weight, this bossy little demanding man popped out. He’s into everything, he wants to play with everybody.”
Here’s Dennis today, at a healthy 12 pounds.
Well done, Dennis.
It’s quite a transformation!
