Twelve teenagers were wounded by gunfire after a birthday party spilled from an Airbnb into a Georgia park and turned violent, authorities said.
The victims ranged in age from 17 to 19, Bibb County officials confirmed. Two remained in critical condition while the other ten were listed as stable following the Saturday night shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon.
The gathering began as a birthday celebration at a nearby Airbnb rental, where high school-aged attendees had assembled. The group was asked to leave that property during the party, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. They then relocated to Crayton Park, where the crowd continued to grow.
A second group arrived at the park, and tensions escalated quickly. An argument broke out between the gatherings before shots were fired, 13WMAZ reported. The gunfire left a dozen young people wounded in a single incident that has drawn federal attention to the central Georgia city.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis addressed reporters with stark words about the scale of violence.
“I can’t remember the last time we’ve had this many people shot at one time,” Davis said.
