A tragic incident has unfolded in Brooklyn, resulting in the deaths of three individuals due to a shooting.
Authorities suspect that several people were involved in this event which occurred at the Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue during the early morning hours of August 17.
During a press conference, New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch shared that the police were alerted to the shooting just before 3:30 am and arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
The lives lost include three men, aged 27 and 35, with the age of the third victim yet to be confirmed.
Additionally, eight others sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening, according to NBC News.
Tisch further mentioned that ‘multiple shooters’ are suspected in the attack, with police having found ‘at least 36 shell casings so far’.
So far, there have been no arrests and no suspects have been named.
“It’s a terrible thing that happened this morning and we’re going to investigate to determine what went down,” Tisch continued.
While no suspects are in custody, police revealed that a weapon was found in the area near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway. They are currently investigating the possibility of its connection to the shooting.
Tisch also commented on the overall decline in shooting incidents.
“We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we’ve seen on record in the city of New York,” she stated, and added: “Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly.”
This incident occurs only days after a separate shooting in Times Square.
In that case, a 17-year-old male reportedly opened fire following an argument with another person.
The attack injured three individuals: a 19-year-old man shot in the foot, a 65-year-old man struck in the left leg, and an 18-year-old woman grazed on the neck, as reported by the BBC.
Among the injured, the 19-year-old man was the intended target, while the other two were bystanders.
The young shooter faced multiple charges including attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon in a restricted area, as reported by Fox 5 New York.
Times Square has been designated as a gun-free zone since October 2022.
