Hopes for a lavish day out on a $4.5 million yacht were dashed for a group of influencers when the vessel began to sink.
On Saturday, May 3, a group of 30 influencers, dressed in bikinis, boarded a 63-foot Tecnomar for Lamborghini yacht for a cruise near Miami Beach, Florida.
However, the yacht started taking on water while near Monument Island, close to Star Island, where celebrities like Rick Ross, Don Johnson, and Jennifer Lopez have reportedly owned homes.
Rescue teams from the Seventh Coast Guard District, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and local police marine patrol units quickly responded to the incident. The individuals on board were safely transported to the Miami Beach Marina.
USCG Southeast tweeted about the event: “A @USCG Sta #MiamiBeach crew & partner agencies responded to a 63-ft vessel taking on water near Monument Island rescuing 32 people w/no injuries reported around 5 p.m., Sat. Commercial salvage is working to recover the vessel & isn’t a hazard to navigation.”
The fish and wildlife agency will be leading the investigation into the incident.
The cause of the yacht’s sinking is still unconfirmed, though speculation suggests the overcrowding could have played a role.
Fox News reports that the Tecnomar for Lamborghini yacht is intended to accommodate 16 people.
Mail Online adds that the yacht is ideally suited to host five guests along with two crew members.
Despite the misfortune, those aboard the yacht appeared largely unfazed by the situation.
In one video, a woman is seen holding a pricey bottle of tequila, managing to save it as the yacht sank, and she remarked that the ‘baby is safe’ in reference to the drink.
Other shared footage showed many women wearing life vests.
Photos from the Coast Guard captured the rear of the yacht submerged in water while the front pointed skyward.
According to the New York Post, the yacht is part of a limited edition series created by luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini and The Italian Sea Group.
MMA fighter Conor McGregor is among the well-known individuals who own one of these exclusive yachts, having reportedly purchased it in 2021.
