Rapper 50 Cent has not only made waves in the music industry but has also ventured into acting, although with mixed results. One of his most notable efforts was for the 2010 movie “All Things Fall Apart,” where he drastically transformed himself for his role.
In an extreme display of dedication, 50 Cent lost a staggering 24kg for his part in the film, where he played Deon, a promising college football player who battles cancer in his senior year. The movie is loosely based on a childhood friend of the rapper. Those curious can check out the film’s trailer below.
To achieve this drastic change, 50 Cent adopted a liquid diet and accomplished the weight loss over just nine weeks. His transformed, gaunt appearance was shared on social media, raising concerns among his fans.
“This time it was a lot tougher for me. I had to discipline myself not … to actually have myself be in the physical state to convey the energy I felt,” he told the Associated Press. “It’s a passion project for me.”
Despite his strong commitment and the physical toll he endured, the film, which also starred the late Ray Liotta, didn’t quite resonate with viewers. It received a lukewarm response and holds a 58 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie premiered at the Miami International Film Festival in 2011 but was released straight to DVD shortly after.
While “All Things Fall Apart” may not have been a blockbuster success, 50 Cent has found considerable success elsewhere in television. He starred in and executive produced the hit series “Power” and its spin-off “Power II: Ghost,” as well as the ABC show “For Life.”
