The entire cast dissolved into tears during Sunday night’s “90 Day Fiancé” tell-all after Debby shared a raw confession about her childhood.
Debby, a mother of two, revealed on the TLC reunion that her own mom was “very unhealthy, mentally manic depressive” while she was growing up. She spoke through tears as her husband, Mido, sat beside her and comforted her.
“I did not have what most kids dream of as a mom,” she said.
The emotional moment unfolded during a heated segment focused on Mallorie and her husband, Rasit, who nearly didn’t marry because he wants children and she does not. Mallorie has cited her own difficult upbringing as the reason she refuses to become a parent.
Debby directly challenged that stance, drawing from her own traumatic past to argue that having children heals old wounds rather than repeating them.
“My mom was very unhealthy, mentally manic depressive, but I can tell you from my experience of going through that life, and how hollow it makes you feel, when your kids come — it heals all that,” she continued.
“It’s the only thing that brought me peace, was that I was going to give my children …”
Mallorie finished the thought through her own tears: “The life you didn’t have.”
Debby pressed on, her voice breaking as she described the redemption she found in motherhood.
“And those little feet and those little fingers, and those little eyes, when they recognize you, all that sadness goes away. It heals you like nothing else does.”
The confession shattered the room. Marissa, 45, who has two sons from a previous marriage, began sobbing uncontrollably. Her younger husband, Edward, 32, desperately wants children, but Marissa believes her age makes it impossible.
“Oh, when I heard her, I was like, ‘I’m taking that away from him.’ And he doesn’t get to experience that,” Marissa noted.
She added, “Because he didn’t have the best childhood growing up either.”
Paula was shedding tears. Caty appeared on the verge of breaking down. Host Shaun Robinson turned to Edward, who crumpled.
“This is so hard,” he said, as Rasit also wiped his face. “It’s not fair.”
The weight became too much. Edward walked off stage.
“I feel like s—t,” he muttered.
Rasit watched him leave and observed in a preview for next week’s episode, “I think he want to be a dad more than me.”
Backstage, the cameras caught Edward and Marissa in a raw exchange. He told her plainly, “I really want a kid.”
Marissa replied in tears, “It feels so horrible, like I’m crushing your dreams.”
The tell-all special, which aired Sunday on TLC, centered heavily on the fractures in Mallorie and Rasit’s relationship over the children question. Mallorie has maintained that never witnessing a healthy parental relationship left her unwilling to risk parenthood herself.
