This Woman Gives Cancer Patients Henna Crowns So They Can Forget About Hair Loss And Feel Beautiful

Chemotherapy is a difficult and painful treatment for anyone with cancer but, for many patients, one of the worst side effects can be hair loss.

That’s why Sarahenna, a henna body art business in Washington, US, is donating time and expertise to give cancer patients who’ve lost their hair stunning henna crowns.

Henna paste is totally plant-based, so there’s no danger of the temporary tattoo compromising already-weakened immune systems of patients.

Sarah Walters, owner of Sarahenna, said she offers the services because she just loves helping others, describing it as “a great feeling”.

Sarah also believes that the henna tattoo process can be relaxing and meditative, just like a trip to the salon, giving cancer patients some time out that they desperately need.

When Sarah’s stepdad was diagnosed with cancer, he only survived five months. Sarah remembers feeling “helpless”, and says that her stepdad’s death inspired her to give away her time and skill to help others.

And Lauren Russel, who’s been undergoing chemotherapy for years, says she keeps returning for henna crowns because “for a little bit people don’t see that it’s because I’m sick. They see art.”

“It is such a positive memory during a time that can be filled with scary, stressful ones,” added another of Sarah’s clients.
