Chrissy Teigen Gets Candid on Her Life-Saving Abortion with Baby Jack

Chrissy Teigen has finally disclosed the actual circumstances behind the death of her son Jack.

At Propper Daley’s “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation” symposium on Thursday, Teigen acknowledged that the miscarriage she had claimed to have experienced two years prior was an abortion.

Teigen and John Legend announced in September 2020 that they had lost their baby, Jack, at 20 weeks due to a pregnancy issue, referring to it as a pregnancy loss. The pair, who are parents to Miles, 4, and Luna, 6, were honest about the death of their son, and Teigen acknowledged that they received a lot of support from friends, family, and even complete strangers.

She admitted that she had to make several “heartbreaking decisions” at that period, including deciding to preserve her own life after learning that her pregnancy was no longer viable. Teigen was shocked to learn that she had had an abortion.

“Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions. It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive, and that I wouldn’t either without any medical intervention,” Teigen explained.

When discussing the miscarriage on Thursday, Teigen referred to it as an abortion rather than a pregnancy loss, telling the audience, “Let’s just call it what it was: It was an abortion. An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance. And to be honest, I never, ever put that together until, actually, a few months ago.”

Teigen, having her fourth child with Legend, claimed that shortly as the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade in June, she realized what she had to do. The model and TV celebrity said that Legend was the one who first alerted her to the situation. She added that her spouse helped her understand that she was one of those individuals too, and that she felt sympathy for those who had to have an abortion and the difficult decision “they” had to make.

“I fell silent, feeling weird that I hadn’t made sense of it that way,” Teigen recalled. “I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage. And I became really frustrated that I didn’t, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion.”

Nearly two years after she and Legend confirmed the death of Jack, Teigen announced her fourth child. Teigen emphasized how terrifying it was to announce her pregnancy after such a tragic loss.
