Taylor Swift has taken over the entire Billboard Hot 100 list, making her the first artist to do so. The top ten tracks on this week’s Hot 100 are all from Swift’s album Midnights, which was released on October 21. Swift has now surpassed Drake’s accomplishment from last year, when he held nine of the top ten slots on the Hot 100 list.
“Anti-Hero” won the top place, replacing “Unholy” by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, who both created history with their No. 1 spots last week.
The album continues to set milestones, including the most-streamed album in a single day on both Spotify and Apple Music, as well as the third-largest streaming week ever for an album. Swift’s album Red (Taylor’s Version) previously held the record for Swift’s most successful streaming week in 2021.
Midnights was also Swift’s eleventh number one album on the Billboard 200 list, with the largest week for any album in seven years (since Adele’s 25). According to Billboard, Swift has equaled Barbara Streisand for the most No. 1 albums recorded by a female artist.
Swift centered Midnights on the old theme of the midnight confession, telling stories for after-hours inspired by self-loathing, dreaming about vengeance, and pondering what may have been.
Swift has been re-recording her previous albums in addition to producing new music since her former label, Big Machine, sold her collection for a rumored $300 million to private-equity outfit Ithaca Holdings. Her albums Fearless and Red have been re-recorded.
