Following billionaire Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, Whoopi Goldberg cancelled her account, stating “the place is a disaster.”
“It has been a little over a week since Elon Musk took over Twitter, and the place is a mess.”
“He’s putting his $8 charge for blue check verification on hold. First it was going to be $20, now it’s going to be $8. So. He also suspended Kathy Griffin for impersonating him on a parody account.”
Goldberg, on the other hand, neglected to mention that the regulation for impersonating someone on Twitter has not changed, and that accounts have been suspended for impersonation under past Twitter administration.
Griffin also did not imitate Musk through a parody account. She impersonated Musk on her own account, which had a blue check verification, as a ploy for Democrats.
Griffin updated her profile name and used Musk’s same profile image to make it appear to be his account, and then began tweeting encouraging everyone to “Vote Blue” in the upcoming midterm elections.
“Following Griffin’s ban, any Twitter accounts engaged in impersonation without clearly mentioning ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended,” Musk stated in a post.
Goldberg is not the first left-wing star who has publicly resigned from Twitter in protest of Musk’s purchase of the firm.
Model Gigi Hadid announced her departure from Twitter on Saturday, citing the platform as a “cesspool of hatred & prejudice.”
Debra Messing, Mark Ruffalo, Tea Leoni, Shonda Rhimes, and Alex Winter are among the left-wing elitists who have promised to leave Twitter following Musk’s takeover of the platform.
