Bryce Leatherwood has been a favorite of his coach, Blake Shelton, throughout this season of The Voice, but his performance in the semifinals on Monday may have been his finest yet!
The country singer hit the stage with his other Top 8 contestants, showcasing his stunning and authentic performance of Justin Moore’s “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” which had his coach on his feet and Blake’s wife, Gwen Stefani, in tears over his emotional reaction.
“It really moved me to see Blake get up and get so excited,” Gwen raved. “You’re so authentic and classical and old school and everything you want to see in a country artist… You have this crazy sort of star quality and stage presence, and I think America can see that.”
As Gwen wiped away tears, Blake agreed, calling his shot like Babe Ruth and directing Bryce to next week’s season 22 finale.
“You just engaged the army of country music fans that watch this show,” Blake raved. “That is the performance and you’re the kind of guy they want to represent them on this show.”
According to John, “everybody’s got pretty outstanding team members,” making for “difficult” competition this season. However, he and Gwen, who is returning to the program for the first time since she and Blake married, agreed that they are working hard to ensure that “The Cowboy” does not add another trophy to his collection.
“Blake’s losing this season,” Gwen teased, with John agreeing, “He’s going to lose.”
