Twitter Blue Is Set to Relaunch Monday at $3 More for iPhone App Users

Twitter Inc will launch an updated version of its subscription service, Twitter Blue, on Monday. The service will cost $8 per month for users accessing it through the web, and $11 per month for Apple iOS users.

The updated service will offer features such as editing tweets after they have been posted, upload videos in 1080p resolution, and receive a blue checkmark post account verification.

It is unclear why Apple iOS users are being charged more than web users, but speculation suggests the additional fee is intended to offset fees associated with the App Store.

Twitter’s subscription service, Twitter Blue, was initially launched in November before being paused due to a surge in fake accounts. It was then scheduled to launch again on Nov. 29, but was delayed.

In a series of tweets last month, Elon Musk, who took Twitter private for $44 billion in November, listed various grievances against Apple, including the 30% fee the iPhone maker charges software developers for in-app purchases. He also accused Apple of threatening to remove Twitter from its app store and ceasing to advertise on social media.

But, after a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Musk tweeted that the misunderstanding about Twitter’s potential removal from the app store had been resolved.
