Rally Car Driver Ken Block Dead at 55, Snowmobile Accident

American motorsport legend and YouTube star Ken Block has passed away at the age of 55 after a snowmobile accident in Utah.

Block was widely renowned for his “Gymkhana” video series on YouTube, in which he performed outrageous racing feats, garnering him nearly two million subscribers.

Before this, he had competed in numerous rally series including Rally America and Global Rallycross. His death has been met with shock and sadness by the motorsport community.


Block’s other company, DC Shoes, which he co-founded, also paid tribute to the skateboarder in an Instagram post on Monday.

“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”

According to the local sheriff’s office, Block had been riding alone with a group when the vehicle upended, landing on top of him and causing injuries that were fatal.

Block had been a competitive rally driver since 2005, winning Rookie of the Year in his first season, as well as rallycross medals at the X Games and podium finishes at the World Rallycross Championship.

Block has also been involved in motocross, skateboarding and snowboarding. Block has found success on YouTube, with millions tuning in to watch him take on treacherous tracks and obstacles with a variety of vehicles.

His accomplishments have earned him two spots on the BBC’s Top Gear and recognition in four EA Sports racing video games.

American Rally Association (ARA) has expressed its sorrow on the passing of rally driver and motorsport legend, Ken Block.

Fellow racers and drivers have paid tribute to Block, with former British Formula One world champion Jenson Button calling him “a talent that did so much for our sport”.

Nascar Xfinity Series driver Ryan Vargas shared how Block’s videos had shaped his interest in cars. Block is survived by his wife, Lucy, and three children.
