Brendan Fraser Says He’d Do Mummy Reboot

Actor Brendan Fraser has revealed he would be open to the idea of a reboot of The Mummy franchise, saying the potential paycheque is something he is looking forward to.

After his acclaimed performance in The Whale, Fraser has returned to the public conscience and his fans have been eager to know if he will be reprising his role as adventurer Rick O’Connell. Since then, the actor has humorously noted that he has “never been this famous and unsalaried at the same time.”

“Gosh, I don’t know any juicy details about it, but it’s kinda been an open-ended question for some time now,” Fraser said. “I’m not opposed to it. I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job.”

“I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life, so sign me up,” he continued, joking: “We’ve all got to start somewhere.”

Actor Brendan Fraser has spoken out about Tom Cruise’s 2017 reboot of the Mummy series, in which Fraser starred in a trilogy of movies from 1999 to 2008.

Fraser argued that Cruise’s reboot was “too much of a straight-ahead horror” and was unable to capture the charm of his own trilogy, which was met with critical and box office success.

“The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn’t see in that film, was fun,” he said. “That was what was lacking in that incarnation.

“It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. The Mummy should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”
