Have you ever sat next to an impossibly hairy, drooling passenger on the metro who always hogs the window seat? There is one such commuter who goes by the name ‘Eclipse’ on Seattle’s D-Line, but the other travelers don’t seem to mind. They even laugh when she starts licking the seat. That’s because Eclipse is, well… a dog.
More specifically, she’s a 2-year-old Labrador-Bullmastiff mix. And she’s figured out how to travel from the bus stop in front of her home to the Belltown dog park — all by herself.
“All the bus drivers know her. She sits here just like a person does,” fellow passenger Tiona Rainwater said. “She makes everybody happy. How could you not love this face?”
Eclipse’s human is Jeff Young, who isn’t as impressed as everyone else with his dog’s abilities. He said that they’ve been regularly taking this route together since she was a puppy. But one time when he hadn’t finished smoking his cigarette and the bus arrived, Eclipse went on ahead without him. “I catch up with her at the dog park,” Young explained matter-of-factly.
It seems as though Eclipse herself thinks nothing of this as well. She hops on the bus, takes a seat by the window, and watches for her stop before trotting to the door when it’s time for her to get off.
“Did that just happen?” one bewildered rider mused, but not before he snapped a selfie with the caption, “Bus is full this morning”.
