A police officer has stepped down from his position after a baffling incident where he ended up locked in the back of his own patrol car with a female detainee for 20 minutes without alerting anyone. Even more shocking, the bodycam footage has just been made public.
Former San Diego officer Anthony Hair parted ways with the police department around a month after an investigation was kicked off due to the troubling events of August 2023.
The ordeal began when Hair, who claims it was an accident, found himself locked in the backseat alongside a female suspect who had earlier suggested a sexual arrangement with him.
He initially detained the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, outside a convenience store for allegedly stealing a car with an accomplice.
After arresting her, Hair transported her to the police headquarters and later to the Las Colinas Detention Center for further questioning.
The released SDPD bodycam footage reveals a conversation where the suspect brazenly asks Hair for sex and inquires about his marital status.
You can check out the controversial bodycam video below (be advised, it contains explicit language):
In the video, the woman remarks, “You’re not too bad.
“What’s it gonna hurt me if I work the system, you know what I mean?
“That’s the way I see sh**.
“Are you single?”
Hair’s response was brief: ‘yeah, but you’re not.’
The conversation escalates as she explicitly expresses her willingness to engage sexually, to which he urgently replies: “Don’t say that right now…don’t say that right now because everything is being recorded right now.”
As they neared the detention center, Hair inquired about her activities in the backseat before shutting off his bodycam, decelerating, and turning onto a residential street.
It took 20 minutes before Hair realized they were locked in and called another officer for assistance.
A colleague described the moment, saying, “I asked him if he was OK.
It remains uncertain whether Hair will face criminal charges related to the incident.
