Fake Keanu Reeves cons woman abroad out of more than $700k

A devoted Spanish fan of Keanu Reeves was tragically swindled out of nearly $750,000, believing she was in a financial relationship with the famed actor.

Canadian-born Reeves, who is 59 years old, embarked on his acting journey in 1984. He’s renowned for his roles in major hits like The Matrix and John Wick. Beyond his iconic roles as Neo, John Constantine, and Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, Reeves also plays bass guitar with Dogstar and contributes to the BRZRKR comic book series. Clearly, Reeves’s schedule is packed, yet one fan was under the impression that he had made time for her.

Identifying herself only as Chloe, this woman shared her story on the Spanish TV program Y ahora Sonsoles, where she alleged that she had been receiving messages from someone she believed to be the Hollywood star.

According to Chloe, the correspondence began when this impersonator responded to one of her social media comments, leading to daily conversations.

The scammer engaged Chloe with talks about rock music and motorcycles and even sent her audio messages in English. As their online relationship developed, the fraudulent Reeves began asking for money.

“He asked me for money to come here, €60,000 for a private jet, then he asked me for €5,000 for a special computer for him to create his scripts, John Wick 5, and to invest in Bitcoin,” Chloe recounted on the show.

Chloe admitted to having sent him a total of €450,000 ($380,137), but she never saw any return on her investment.

In total, Chloe ended up sending the scammer a staggering €700,000 ($750,000). She was eventually compelled to pawn her belongings and borrow money from family members.

“It wasn’t a love scam, but an economic one,” she clarified during her TV appearance.

After conducting 16 bank transfers and accruing substantial debt, Chloe started to suspect foul play. She finally realized that the person she had been communicating with was likely not the acclaimed director of Man of Tai Chi and decided to cut ties with him.

Interestingly, Chloe’s ordeal is not unique. Earlier this year, a woman from Colorado also fell victim to a similar Keanu Reeves romance scam, believing she had been in contact with the Lebanese-born actor since 2022.

“We had great conversations. We talked about everything from what we had for breakfast to sex in the shower,” the 65-year-old told CBS News Colorado. She even gave the scammer access to her bank accounts and tax data.

In April 2024, she reported having sent him about $5,000 in total, yet she remained convinced that it wasn’t a scam. “I can tell you what movies he’s working on. We talked about all kinds of stuff,” she asserted.

She stated that the only proof she would accept of being scammed would be if Keanu Reeves himself would confirm it by showing up and telling her personally.

Media outlets, including CBS, have reported extensively on ‘The Keanu Reeves Scam’ over the years. Representatives for Reeves have consistently stated that he does not operate any social media accounts, debunking claims of online interactions with fans.
