Heads up, sci-fi buffs! Netflix is about to drop a sequel to one of its highly acclaimed thrillers, and it’s coming sooner than you might think!
Netflix is already a treasure trove of Spanish sci-fi gems, boasting titles like Bird Box Barcelona and Welcome to Eden, not to mention the 2018 smash hit, Mirage.
For those who thrive on dystopian drama, searching Netflix will guide you to titles like the survival thriller, Nowhere, and 2020’s binge-fest, The Barrier.
Another beloved title that has kept fans hooked since its 2019 debut is The Platform. Netflix recently excited audiences everywhere by confirming that the Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia-directed film is slated for a sequel.
Check out the heart-stopping trailer for The Platform 2 below:
The original film, The Platform, featuring Iván Massagué, Zorion Eguileor, and Antonia San Juan, introduces viewers to a dystopian prison where food descends floor by floor.
Inhabitants, placed in this facility for various crimes, endure a month per level, with their sustenance provided by the descending food platform.
As expected, those on higher levels enjoy ample gourmet options, while those below must scramble for the leftovers.
The Platform 2 continues the tale in the same vertical penitentiary, now following a new character rather than Massagué’s Goreng.
An official plot synopsis for The Platform 2 states: “As a mysterious leader takes control inside the Platform, a newcomer finds themselves entangled in the struggle to overthrow this oppressive regime and its ruthless food distribution system.
“With death looming over those who defy the meal order, the stakes couldn’t be higher. How desperate must one be to challenge this lethal food chain?”
When the news broke that The Platform 2 would be arriving on Netflix this year, social media buzzed with excitement. One X user exclaimed, “Oh man, this is great news!! The first one was really good!”
Another fan shared, “I’m so excited. The Platform is one of the best sci-fi thriller movies I’ve ever seen. It’s an engrossing thriller, darkly comical and with a solid commentary on the social fabric. Can’t wait to watch the sequel.”
One more chimed in, “First one was sick hopefully this one is on par.”
Another penned, “That’s so gross and I love it! Why is that?!?”
The wait is almost over, as Netflix has disclosed that The Platform 2 will premiere on the platform on October 4, 2024.
