A royal shocker has just hit the headlines! Dubai’s very own princess has decided to end her marriage, and she’s made it public in a bold way.
Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum didn’t hold back when she took to Instagram to announce her intention to divorce her husband.
The marriage between Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, which began with a grand wedding in April 2023 and soon welcomed a daughter, has taken a turn just a year later. The princess expressed her feelings openly on social media, signaling the end of their union.
In her post, Sheikha Mahra hinted at her husband’s distractions with ‘other companions’ and declared her desire for a divorce.
She wrote: “Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce.
“I divorce you, I divorce you, and I Divorce You. Take care. Your ex-wife.”
The dramatic announcement has garnered massive attention online, especially since Sheikha Mahra is the daughter of the ruler of Dubai and the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. She previously sparked conversations by posting a photo with her daughter captioned ‘just the two of us’.
In her announcement, Sheikha Mahra referenced the antiquated ‘triple talaq’ method, a form of Islamic divorce that has since been outlawed in the UAE. Though traditionally this allowed a man to divorce his wife by stating his intent three times, the practice was not available to women and is now banned in many Muslim-majority nations.
Regardless, the princess used this reference possibly to underscore her decisiveness in ending her marriage, though they will have to undergo formal court proceedings to complete the divorce process.
Initially, there was speculation that her social media might have been hacked, but no such indications have emerged since the post was made public.
Both the princess and Sheikh Mana have taken steps on social media that signify the end, like unfollowing each other and removing their wedding photos, as reported by the Khaleej Times.
The public’s reaction has been a mix of support and admiration for Sheikha Mahra’s bold move. Comments poured in, applauding her strength and resolve.
One admirer commented: “I think many people aren’t seeing the value of her saying it three times but it adds power to her statement. It means she is 1000000% done.”
Another supporter shared: “Every woman should know her self worth.”
And a third chimed in: “Your happiness is not negotiable.”
