The first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter Quidditch Champions video game has been released, and it has sparked a lot of discussion.
Harry Potter Quidditch Champions is the latest in a series of Harry Potter games, but it’s not the newest addition to the franchise.
Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world role-playing game, launched in 2023 and achieved massive success, earning $850 million in its first two weeks.
It’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is keen to turn it into a long-term franchise.
However, despite the ability to fly around Hogwarts on a broom in Hogwarts Legacy, Quidditch was not a playable feature, thanks to Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black.
So, it’s understandable why the release of the first trailer for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions on July 29 caused such a stir.
The game is being developed by Unbroken Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label, which has released several other Wizarding World games.
According to the game’s website, players can look forward to ‘immersing themselves in the enchanting world of Quidditch by playing solo or sharing the magic with friends and family.’
You can choose to play as a character from the franchise, such as Harry Potter or Draco Malfoy, or create your own Quidditch Champion to lead your team to victory in the Quidditch World Cup.
Despite the excitement, many fans have voiced the same criticism.
“Shouldn’t this just be a part of Hogwarts Legacy,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Why isn’t this Hogwarts Legacy DLC?,” another simply commented.
Another fan suggested it ‘should just be an add-on for Legacy or even a Fortnite crossover’.
“Make it DLC for Hogwarts Legacy & we’re getting somewhere,” a third commented.
A fourth fan remarked that they should have ‘used the same engine and graphics as Hogwarts Legacy and tied the two games together with a second Hogwarts Legacy’.
Others have noted that it will have big shoes to fill, considering the 2003 game Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is often regarded as one of the best Harry Potter games.
The standard and deluxe editions of Harry Potter Quidditch Champions are set to be released on September 3, 2024, with the Physical Deluxe Edition available on November 8, 2024.
The standard edition will retail for $29.99, while both the Physical and Digital Deluxe Editions will be available for $39.99.
