Harrison Ford has shared his experiences working on his forthcoming Marvel film.
The renowned actor takes on the role of Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, also known as Red Hulk, in Captain America: Brave New World, slated for release next year.
Previously, the character was played by William Hurt, who appeared in five Marvel films over the years. Ford stepped into the role following Hurt’s death in 2022.
Hurt was 71 years old when he passed away, having been diagnosed with cancer in 2018.
Discussing his approach to continuing Hurt’s legacy as Ross, Ford, now 82, remarked at the recent San Diego Comic-Con: “He laid a very firm foundation for the character, I respect him enormously in the work that he did in his lifetime.
“God bless his soul. I’m delighted to be able to stand on his shoulders and continue playing the character.”
During Comic-Con, Ford also had a conversation with Variety about the motion capture technology used to transform him into Red Hulk.
“What did it take? It took not caring,” he stated. “It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.”
Ford swiftly clarified that he did not intend to ‘disparage’ the film with his comment.
“I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do – or your acting coach, if you had one,” he told the outlet.
“But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got with the trailer.”
Ford will appear in Captain America: Brave New World alongside MCU veteran Anthony Mackie.
Mackie has been portraying Sam Wilson in the franchise, known as The Falcon.
However, The Falcon has now assumed the role of Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), an event first depicted in the Marvel spin-off series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Talking about working with the legendary Ford, Mackie shared with Inverse last year: “He’s Harrison f**king Ford. There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool guy.
“He’s everything a movie star should be. He would say, ‘Let’s shoot this piece of s**t.’ And everybody was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot this s**t.'”
Captain America: Brave New World is set to be released on February 14, 2025.
