Olympic viewers believe a table tennis athlete has ‘defied physics’ with an extraordinary shot during the sport’s final.
One of the unique aspects of the Olympics every four years is the chance to witness sports that typically might not pique your interest.
Handball is a prime example, with many viewers becoming engrossed despite not knowing the rules.
Table tennis is another such sport, and fans were astonished by a shot played by Swedish table tennis player, Truls Moregardh, during his match against China’s Fan Zhendong for the gold medal.
Moregardh was just two points away from losing in Paris when he executed a truly remarkable shot.
After an intense rally, the Olympian scooped the ball just as it was about to touch the ground.
The Swedish player even added an impressive spin before the ball bounced on Fan’s side of the net.
The ball then veered off the surface, delivering Moregardh one of the most impressive points ever seen in Olympic table tennis.
Following the incredible shot, social media erupted with comments saying it ‘defies physics’.
“Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh was on the verge of defeat in the table tennis Olympic final and said he wanted to do something fun for the crowd. This is so good,” one person wrote on Twitter.
Another added: “Another angle and replay of the Snake 🐍 shot from Truls Moregard in the 🥇medal match. #TableTennis. And That smile at the end from both the players.”
A third person commented: “The physics of this ‘snake shot’ by Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh in table tennis at the Olympics final,” while another simply said: “Wait a minute…wtf.”
Despite the incredible shot, Moregardh did not win the match, losing 4-1 to his Chinese opponent.
However, he still walked away with a silver medal and delivered one of the most impressive shots in the history of Olympic table tennis.
In other Olympic news, Simone Biles left NFL legend Tom Brady in awe with her performance.
Many Olympic viewers took to Twitter to discuss the heartwarming moment.
“Legends recognize legends,” one person wrote.
Another said: “A GOAT appreciating another GOAT”, while a third added: “All the other sports GOATs coming to see the gymnastics GOAT >>>.”
Biles reflected on her impressive 11-medal win: “I accomplished way more than my wildest dreams, not just at this Olympics, but in the sport.”
“So I can’t be mad at the performances… Competing then walking away with four medals. I’m not mad about it.”
