A man who vanished three decades ago has resurfaced with no memory of the intervening years.
Vasile Gorgos, a Romanian cattle farmer, frequently traveled to sell his livestock.
Now 95 years old, Vasile used to stay in touch with his family during his business trips. However, one day 30 years ago, he left as usual and then mysteriously disappeared without a trace.
In 1991, Vasile vanished, typically returning after only a few days.
The enigma of Vasile’s disappearance remains unsolved, particularly because he has no memory of the time he was gone.
Remarkably, Vasile asserts that he had been at home the entire time he was missing.
His family reported his disappearance to the police, sparking a search that yielded no results.
Then, in September 2021, Vasile reappeared at the gate of his farm without warning.
A car was seen speeding away as he returned, but no one recorded its registration.
To deepen the mystery, Vasile was dressed in the same clothes he wore when he vanished, with the train ticket from that day still in his pocket.
Naturally, as time passed, his family believed Vasile had died.
During his 30-year absence, several memorial services were conducted in his honor.
Upon his return, witnesses noted that he was confused but appeared healthy.
Medical evaluations confirmed Vasile’s health, despite some age-related neurological issues.
Reports indicated that Vasile could recall being born in 1928, his wife’s death, and his father’s prominence as a merchant.
However, he struggled to recognize his son and daughter.
His son initially didn’t recognize him either and expressed confusion about the whole saga to local media.
“We don’t understand him. He doesn’t know what he’s saying,” he said. “He talks to us about the period when he was involved in raising and selling cows. We ask him one thing, and he tells us another.
“Who knows where he has been, who kept him, maybe he was forced to work… who knows what kind of life he led?”
The family is now desperately seeking anyone with information about Vasile’s whereabouts during his absence to come forward.
