An Olympic athlete experienced an unforgettable day when she shattered a European record and proposed to her partner.
During the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Alice Finot participated in the steeplechase event, competing against 14 other athletes.
At 33 years old, Finot was making her Olympic debut. Although she narrowly missed winning a medal, she accomplished something remarkable by setting a new record.
Finot established a new European record for the steeplechase, completing the race in an impressive 8:58.67.
For those not familiar with the steeplechase, it involves long-distance running with obstacles. Competitors run 3000 meters and face jumps, sometimes landing in pools of water to increase the challenge.
After her record-breaking performance, Finot made headlines when she approached her boyfriend and proposed to him, capturing the moment on camera.
What an extraordinary day!
People quickly showered the couple with congratulations as they embraced each other.
One person wrote: “Wow what a day for Alice, congrats!” Another commented: “Congrats to her and her record!”
Another individual added: “This is officially the best day of her life.”
However, as often happens on social media, not everyone was supportive. Some criticized Finot for being the one to propose.
One commenter wrote: “I wish them all the happiness in the world but dude should’ve been the one proposing here.”
Many others defended her, stating that it did not matter who proposed.
One person wrote: “It’s 2024 – who cares. They are happy!” Another said: “i think she can do whatever she wants quite honestly.”
Another added: “It’s 2024, not 1950. If she wants to propose, then more power to her.”
Someone else noted it was a nice way for her to make the decision, writing: “I love that she proposed. It was her day, she gets to decide if she wants to share her Olympic spotlight with a proposal.”
In a heartwarming video, Finot is seen approaching her boyfriend in the crowd, dropping to one knee.
She holds up what appears to be a pin as her boyfriend accepts the proposal, attaching it to his chest.
Congratulations to Alice Finot on both her European record and her engagement!
