Police in New Mexico have identified the cause of death for 26-year-old Sophia Leone, who was found deceased in her residence.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Leone was discovered “unresponsive” in her Albuquerque apartment on March 1.
Making her mark in the adult film industry, Leone rose to fame in 2014 and subsequently appeared in numerous scenes.
The news of Leone’s passing was initially shared by her stepfather, Mike Romero, on a fundraising page: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to Share the news of our beloved Sophia’s Passing.
“The Sudden loss of Sophia has left her family and Friends devastated and in Shock.”
Initially, police described her death as “suspicious” but noted no signs of trauma.
A recent update has now clarified that her death was accidental.
Albuquerque officers informed TMZ that Leone’s official cause and manner of death are listed as an accidental overdose.
The specific substances involved remain unknown.
Romero, in his tribute, called Leone a “beloved Daughter, Sister, Grand Daughter, Niece and Friend”.
He added, “She had a deep love for all animals, specifically her 3 pets. She enjoyed traveling and always found ways to make everyone around her smile.”
Leone’s former modeling agency, Los Angeles-based 101 Modeling, expressed their sorrow in a statement posted at that time.
“Our hearts are broken by the untimely and tragic passing of our beloved Sophia Leone,” the agency wrote on Twitter. “A beautiful spirit who touched many of us. RIP sweet angel and know how much we loved you.”
Fellow adult film star, Riley Jean, also shared her condolences: “I’m so f***ing sorry to anyone who knew Sophia. Her and I interacted with each other a handful of times but we were never super close.
“If anybody needs someone to talk to please feel free to send me a message. This is a hard time for all of us,” she added.
