Hotel employee reveals eight things to avoid during your stay

A hotel employee has shared a list of eight actions to avoid while staying at a hotel.

This front desk worker explained that there are specific things you should definitely steer clear of during your hotel stay.

Some of these guidelines might catch you off guard.

We all generally know the standard etiquette for staying in a hotel: keep the room clean, avoid spills, and be mindful of other guests.

Of course, it goes without saying that stealing is a no-no, and leaving a positive review if you enjoyed your stay is always appreciated.

However, one hotel worker has outlined eight additional actions to avoid.

“I work a front desk at a hotel and I’m gonna read off a list of things you should not do as someone who is coming to visit a hotel,” the woman explained on TikTok.

“Do not show up the day after your reservation, thinking that you’re going to check in. It has gone into no-show and we no longer have that reservation,” warned TikToker @mamafromarkansas.

She also mentioned that booking through third parties can complicate any changes to your reservation.

“Do not book third party, do not book with them… we cannot touch that reservation because you booked third party,” she said.

If you accidentally book the wrong dates, the responsibility falls on you.

“Do not get mad at an employee, because you booked the wrong dates for the reservation – it’s not our fault and we send you a confirmation via email, so that’s your fault for not double checking,” she said.

She also emphasized that if there’s no availability, asking repeatedly won’t change that fact.

She warned: “If you call, and ask if we have availability on a certain date, and we tell you no, please don’t ask four more times… I’m looking right at the screen and it’s not giving me any inventory for those dates.”

“Please don’t bring your kids to an event and let them run a muck in the hotel and tear things up while you’re at the bar getting drunk,” she added.

When you have a bad experience at a hotel, it might be tempting to leave without addressing the issue, only to write a harsh review online later.

The hotel worker urged guests not to do this.

“Please do not leave the hotel if you have issues and don’t let us know and then leave and give us a bad review. You did not give us an opportunity to fix your issue,” she said.

Ensuring the hotel meets your needs before booking is always a good idea.

“Do not book a reservation at a hotel if you have not looked at what amenities the hotel has to offer,” she added.

The hotel employee advised against ignoring policies, thinking they don’t apply to you.

She warned: “Please do not be the person who thinks that policies do not apply to you.

“We have a 24-hour cancellation policy which means if you call the day of your reservation, you’re gonna’ get charged the late cancellation fee.”
