Staff at a Louis Vuitton store in China found out they had wasted hours when a woman requested them to count thousands of dollars, only to leave without making a purchase.
This strange incident took place at one of the brand’s locations in Chongqing, southwestern China, where the customer returned after an unsatisfactory visit a few months prior.
Using the handle ‘xiaomayouren,’ the woman shared in an online post that she had an ‘infuriating’ experience during her initial visit when she intended to buy some clothing items.
She described asking to see new arrivals but claimed staff only showed her old seasonal items and ignored her request for a glass of water.
The woman alleged that store staff rolled their eyes when she asked to see some dresses, leading her to contact the brand’s headquarters after eventually leaving the store.
After receiving no response from headquarters, she was inspired by Julia Roberts’ movie Pretty Woman to take her revenge on the store.
Two months later, she returned with her personal assistant, a friend, and a bag containing 600,000 yuan (approximately $84,000) in cash.
She picked up some items around the store and tried on a few clothes before informing the sales assistant that she intended to buy the products.
Designer garments often cost thousands, so most customers likely opt to pay by card. However, this customer had a different plan.
She presented the staff with a large bag of cash, forcing them to count the notes to ensure the amount was correct.
According to the South China Morning Post, the counting process took two hours.
After they finished, the customer allegedly announced: “We don’t want to buy now. We are leaving.”
In her social media post, she wrote: “After they finished counting it, I just took away my money and left. How is it possible for me to buy their products to improve their work performance?”
The story garnered numerous reactions online, with one person calling the incident ‘delightful’.
