The Rock’s unusual ‘no-lose’ clause in contract might clarify the extremely awkward interview moment

An uncomfortable red carpet exchange with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson may showcase his rumored ‘no lose’ clause in action.

Podcaster Amelia Dimoldenberg approached Johnson and proposed an impromptu game.

While Dimoldenberg is known for her unique brand of awkwardness – as fans of Chicken Shop Date are well aware – her interaction with The Rock was particularly cringe-worthy.

There might be a reason why the interview was hard to watch… it could be that the 52-year-old is simply a natural winner.

He was and remains THE MAN in the WWE wrestling world. He’s tall, strong, wealthy, successful, attractive, and a father – he’s winning at everything in life.

So what exactly is this ‘no-lose clause’ in his movie contracts?

It’s that he reportedly can’t lose a fight on screen, or even be shown taking too much punishment in his numerous on-screen battles.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Vin Diesel was the first to adopt such a clause in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Vin Diesel had apparently developed a system where he assigned a numerical value to each blow he received on screen.

These were carefully tallied by a producer, his younger sister, to ensure the contract’s rules were adhered to.

Johnson and Statham observed this system and had a similar clause added to their contracts.

But does this contract extend to… a game of rock, paper, scissors?

That’s what Dimoldenberg intended to find out when she challenged The Rock to a round of the classic playground game, likely punning on his nickname.

I’m not implying Dimoldenberg signed a contract to lose to The Rock… merely that his winning mindset might have led him to assume the presenter was cheating.

Let’s quickly recap the events.

At the Oscars, Johnson agreed to speak with the 30-year-old, and they played a quick game.

He chose rock, and Dimoldenberg chose paper, and thus she won.

However, Johnson argued that in the game, you’re supposed to reveal your choice on the word ‘go’, but Dimoldenberg did it on ‘scissors’.

Johnson then joked: “This is cheating, what kind of bulls*** is this?”

Dimoldenberg responded: “I think I just won.”

He quipped: “You just cheated.”

They played again, and Johnson won by choosing scissors to her paper.

Dimoldenberg then suggested a reason for the confusion.

She explained: “I think my way is the British way and it’s a lot better.”

Having seen multiple videos online comparing how the US and the UK play the game, I agree with her.

The comedian added: “At first I thought that you were just only doing rock.”

To which The Rock revealed: “That’s usually what I do, but since you cheated I recognized your game.”

So there you have it – if you ever get the chance to play The Rock at rock, paper, scissors… choose paper.
