Lawyer inserted himself into client’s will before plotting to have him killed

A Michigan attorney received a long prison sentence after being convicted of altering his client’s will to benefit himself and hiring a hitman to carry out a murder.

Dan “Hutch” Hutchinson, aged 47 from Michigan, was fatally shot in June 2022 after employing 39-year-old Marco Bisbikis as his lawyer.

In the weeks leading up to Dan’s murder, he and his wife, Marisa Hutchinson, prepared their will and trusted Bisbikis with their final wishes, Marisa testified in court.

Following their trust in Bisbikis, he inserted himself into their will, aiming to secure millions of dollars in their trust.

Roy Larry, 46, was then hired to eliminate Dan and Marisa.

On June 1, 2022, Dan had just exited his jewelry store when Larry approached his SUV on an electric bike and fired 14 shots, resulting in Dan’s death. Marisa, who was also in the vehicle, survived the attack.

Larry was swiftly apprehended, and subsequent investigations led to both him and Bisbikis being charged and convicted of first-degree premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm.

Investigators revealed that Bisbikis collaborated with Larry and several other accomplices, including Darnell Larry, Angelo Raptoplous, and Philip Sumpter.

Darnell Larry admitted that he was initially contracted by Bisbikis for the murder but then subcontracted Roy Larry to execute the plan.

During the court proceedings, Marisa discussed the thriving business she and her husband managed, which had earned $30 million in 2021.

“Business was booming. It was challenging to keep up,” she testified. “People had substantial disposable income during the pandemic — and they were eager to spend it.”

After the guilty verdicts for Larry and Bisbikis, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald commented: “The evidence uncovered a complex and shocking chain of events that culminated in the murder of Dan Hutchison and the attempted murder of Marisa Hutchinson…

“This was an appalling and tragic crime, and I hope that today’s verdict provides some peace to the family and loved ones of Dan Hutchinson.”

Both Bisbikis and Larry maintain their innocence, with Bisbikis stating he would return to ‘prove [his] innocence’.

“I sympathize with you all. I also miss Daniel Hutchinson,” Bisbikis said. “He was a close friend and a client. I had no involvement in his murder. I firmly stand by that.”

In June 2024, two years after the murder, both men were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for their roles in Dan’s death and the attempted murder of Marisa.

Darnell Larry and Raptoplous accepted plea deals, while Sumpter’s case is still pending.
