The caretakers of a young schoolgirl, who tragically lost her family, have provided an update on her well-being.
In July, Shane Roller, his partner Shannen Morgan, and their daughters Lillie and Rubie, were involved in a fatal car accident in West Yorkshire, UK.
Their vehicle collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of both motorcyclists as well.
Poppie, the couple’s other daughter, was not in the car during the incident and is now without her parents and siblings.
Following the tragedy, a GoFundMe page was created to support the 11-year-old’s immediate needs, and more than £400,000 has been raised.
An update on the fundraiser, shared earlier this month, confirmed Poppie’s return to school, 12 weeks after her family’s passing.
Paul Hepple, who set up the GoFundMe page, provided more details on Poppie’s current situation.
Commenting on the significant funds raised for Poppie, Paul stated: “I want to mention that not a single penny of the funds has been touched yet. GoFundMe is currently awaiting the transfer instructions, and after careful consideration, it has been decided that every single penny will go into a trust fund for Poppie, this ensures that your incredible generosity will continue to support her long into the future.”
“Her aunt Faye has been added as the beneficiary to handle the funds, and she will transfer them to the trust fund.”
He also mentioned that Poppie is coping as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
“She has bravely returned to school and, although she was nervous at first, she is slowly settling in,” said the update.
“She is receiving therapy at school, which is helping her navigate her loss. Poppie and her Aunt, Faye, have also received invaluable support from Brake, the road safety charity, who have been instrumental in helping them manage the legal side of things and providing guidance.”
On behalf of Poppie’s aunt, Paul expressed gratitude towards the Barnsley Mental Health Support Team, Compass Be, and other organizations that have offered assistance.
The update concluded with: “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your continued kindness, patience, and support. Your generosity has not only secured Poppie’s future but has also brought light during a very dark time.”
