In a devastating incident in Derby, Kansas, a woman lost her life after accidentally colliding with a moving plane propeller while capturing photos.
The tragic event occurred shortly before 3.00pm local time on Saturday (26 October).
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the location and discovered a woman in her 30s with critical injuries.
Amanda Gallagher, 37, was critically injured while photographing individuals boarding and leaving planes when she inadvertently backed into a moving propeller.
KAKE News reported that Amanda was rushed to a local hospital in a dire condition. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries.
The incident is under investigation by local authorities. Cook Airfield, where the accident happened, shared a statement on Facebook offering their sympathies.
The statement said: “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the young lady who died yesterday after a tragic accident with an airplane propeller on Cook Airfield.
“I wasn’t there when it happened, so I will not speculate on what could have or should have happened differently. Just please keep her family, her friends and her Air Capital Drop Zone family in your prayers and thoughts.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated in honor of Amanda, with nearly $6,000 raised by Monday morning.
The fundraiser’s organizer Abbey Charboneau expressed: “Amanda Gallagher was kind, adventurous, creative and beautiful inside and out. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed.
“On October 26th, Amanda passed away in a very sad accident, doing what she loved, skydiving and taking pictures! As her family processes through this tragic accident, they could use your help covering the funeral expenses. Please consider helping them out and also keeping them all in your prayers.”
KAKE notes that Amanda was an enthusiastic photographer and owned her own business, AG Photography.
Through her photography business, Amanda captured her remarkable travels and shared images online from her experiences at the Air Capital Drop Zone.
