There’s a particular song that has earned the title of ‘most popular wedding song of all time’ due to its frequent appearance on Spotify wedding playlists.
As we navigate through life, there comes a point when our vacation days shift from being spent on festivals and recovery days to attending various stag dos, hen dos, and weddings. The expenses pile up as we travel to witness loved ones exchange vows.
What makes these costly trips and dwindling leave days worthwhile? A convenient location, delicious food, flowing drinks, and, of course, the music.
It seems one 80s classic stands out as the ultimate wedding favorite.
While songs by Ed Sheeran or Beyoncé might make an appearance at many post-wedding celebrations, the track that’s been labeled ‘the most popular wedding song of all time’ belongs to none other than the Queen of Pop herself.
No, Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ might not be the most fitting choice for the big day, but ‘Like a Virgin’ could be, depending on the situation.
In a bid to confirm the reigning wedding song, the online search tool Breezit conducted a study, analyzing 2,000 Spotify wedding-themed playlists to determine the most frequently featured track, according to Brides.
From around 50,000 songs, one emerged as the clear favorite.
Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ was found on an impressive 484 playlists.
This song appeared in 24.2 percent of the wedding-related playlists analyzed in the study.
Other frequently featured tracks included The Killers’ ‘Mr. Brightside’, which showed up in 18.8 percent of playlists, along with Earth, Wind, & Fire’s ‘September’ (18.45 percent) and Black Eyed Peas’ ‘I Gotta Feeling’ (17.95 percent).
Beyoncé made the list with ‘Crazy in Love’, and Bruno Mars’ ‘Marry You’ is another crowd-pleaser.
Arturas Asakavicius, Co-founder and CEO of Breezit, remarked: “Music plays an incredibly important role in wedding celebrations, and it’s fascinating to see which songs are still hailed as wedding classics, even years after their initial release.
“Wedding playlists can help create lasting memories, capturing both the joy of the dance floor and the romance of walking down the aisle. Certain songs have become intertwined with the celebration of a wedding, which is why some have become timeless classics for many couples’ big day.”
