Selena Gomez’s boyfriend has stirred up a bit of controversy by landing a spot on a list of the sexiest men on the planet, with some people harshly calling it a ‘joke’.
Benny Blanco surprised many last year when the singer revealed they were dating. Now, just over a year later, the 36-year-old record producer and songwriter has been named on People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ list.
Last year’s title went to Patrick Dempsey, known for his good looks and strong jawline, while the year prior, it was awarded to Chris Evans, famously known as Captain America. So, seeing the Virginian-born record executive on the list has caught some off guard.
Personally, I don’t think Blanco is unattractive, but that hasn’t stopped a wave of criticism from ‘confused’ fans, who speculate that Selena Gomez might have influenced his inclusion on the publication’s list.
The reactions began on Twitter, with one user asking, “This has to be a joke right..? RIGHT?????”
Another user suggested, “Selena paid for this.”
A third simply stated, “Wait… they’re joking right.”
In a more biting comment, a fourth quipped: “it’s not opposite day cmon…”
A fifth user lamented, “Man we really haven’t gotten a single break this year.”
The comments continued, with another adding, “Are you kidding me?”
In an interview with People, Blanco shared insights into his life and how one of the ‘sexiest’ individuals navigates their daily routine and wins over women.
Men, this could be advice worth heeding—after all, he did win over Selena Gomez!
“Tell her [your partner] how pretty she is. Chivalry’s not dead,” he explained.
He also offered some tips on how to appear more attractive to your partner.
His suggestions included learning to cook, dressing with confidence, and making first dates about shared experiences—’try to create a moment in time,’ he advised.
He also discussed other ways to impress, like being hospitable to everyone and treating your mom well, showing that he seems to be a genuine person.
Fortunately, not everyone disagreed with People’s choice—some supported it.
One person commented, “Can’t argue with that choice! He’s got the talent and the charm to match.”
Another said, “Benny’s on fire!”
A third added, “Well-deserved spotlight!”
A fourth wrote: “Good for him (I’m yet to listen to any Benny Blanco song without juice WRLD, any favorites of his tracks or recommendations?).”
And a fifth noted, “He looks fine.”
Go on Blanco, you’ve got my support!
