After a long period of anticipation, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have left some fans disappointed with their match.
The YouTuber who transitioned to boxing and the iconic heavyweight fought at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight, initially set for July, was postponed until this evening.
Paul emerged the winner after eight rounds through a unanimous decision.
Despite the event marking Tyson’s much-anticipated return to boxing and being the first time a boxing event was streamed live on Netflix, many viewers quickly deemed it disappointing. Numerous fans questioned why they even stayed up to watch the match.
“The most boring boxing fight in the history of boxing. What was even the point of this bout lmfao. This might be worse than Taker vs Goldberg,” one viewer expressed on Twitter.
Another commented, “That was a horrible fight!! But they definitely got paid good while we out here looking stupid when they staged this whole s**t.”
“I waited a year for this..?” queried another viewer.
Someone else added, “Can’t believe I was up all night just to watch Mike Tyson worst fight ever.”
“This is definitely going down in history as the most boring a** fight, This was a charity fight for Jake Paul and he couldn’t manage to knock out a 58 year old Tyson who’s last professional fight was in 2005,” noted another user.
The clash between Paul and Tyson was initially planned for the summer. However, the former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion had to withdraw just two months prior because of an ‘ulcer flare-up’.
Spectators spent up to $2 million for the event, with VIP tickets fetching such high prices and all tickets selling out.
The event saw 65,000 attendees while millions more watched worldwide via streaming on Netflix.
Though the exact earnings haven’t been disclosed, it’s believed the winner stands to earn tens of millions of dollars. At an August press conference, Paul stated: “I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend.”
Tyson is speculated to have a purse of $20 million.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tyson’s estimated net worth is $10 million, while Paul is valued at $80 million dollars. This match is a significant payday for both fighters, whether or not they choose to acknowledge it.
