Miriam Margolyes reveals harsh reason for rejecting incredible offer to feature in Marvel series

Miriam Margoyle recently shared a humorous anecdote about declining a Marvel project and how it highlighted her own avarice.

With an extensive career in both film and theater, Miriam Margoyle holds the luxury of selecting which roles she wishes to undertake.

It might come as a shock that she recently refused an offer from Marvel, missing out on an opportunity to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Many actors eagerly seize the chance to be part of Marvel, ready to play any role due to the lucrative nature of these films.

In an interview with Australian media outlet News.com.au during the promotion of her autobiography ‘Oh Miriam!’, she recounted turning down a role in Marvel’s ‘Agatha All Along’ series.

“They contacted me and said, ‘we’re doing a story about witches’. I thought, ‘oh god, not witches again, because I’ve done that with Harry Potter.”

Margoyle has previously stirred controversy among the Harry Potter fan community with her remarks regarding adult enthusiasts of the series.

In March, she expressed: “I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now.

“It was 25 years ago and it’s for children – I think it’s for children.” she said in an interview with New Zealand broadcaster, 1News.

She went on: “They get stuck in it. I do Cameos, and people say, ‘We’re having a Harry Potter-themed wedding, and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

However, when it came to the Marvel offer, Margoyle humorously admitted that the real issue was her own financial desires rather than anything else.

She elaborated: “I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months. So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds ($1.2 million)’ and they said, ‘you can have half a million’, and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it’, so it just stopped. Really it’s a story about my own greed rather than anything else.”

This tale has also made its way across social media platforms, with Reddit users commenting on Margoyle’s decision.

One user remarked: “What an extraordinarily life-changing amount of money for me. I would absolutely take an acting gig in Georgia for 6 figures; that seems so easy. I know it’s different for highly successful people, but I wish my life had this luxury.”

Another noted: “She’s also 83, she probs just is more considerate of how she uses her time now. I can’t blame her.”

A third user commented: “I’d love to be able to turn down a $600,000 deal.”

Me too man, me too.
