A man from Vietnam, who doubted whether his daughter was biologically his, uncovered more than he expected.
Children often bear a resemblance to their biological parents as they grow. For instance, Reese Witherspoon’s daughter looks remarkably like her, and Jack Nicholson’s son, Ray, who appeared in the film “Smile,” shares similarities with his father.
However, a father in Vietnam began questioning if his daughter, whom he found ‘too pretty’ to be his, was actually his child.
The man’s identity remains unknown, but he relocated to Ho Chi Minh City with his wife, Hong, and their daughter, Lan. As Lan grew older, her father’s suspicions about her likeness to him intensified. He eventually decided to have a DNA test, which revealed that his teenage daughter was not biologically his.
Devastated by the news, the man became distant from his family and reportedly turned to alcohol, according to Hindustan Times. When he confronted his wife, she denied any infidelity.
Hong eventually left with Lan and moved to another city, where Lan enrolled in a new school. It was here that the mystery started to unfold. Lan became friends with a classmate who shared the same birthday and was born in the same hospital.
The girls decided to celebrate their birthdays together, bringing both families together. During the meeting, it was discovered that Lan closely resembled her friend’s mother. Both families decided to conduct DNA tests, which confirmed that their daughters had been switched at birth.
According to the South China Morning Post, the two families now spend considerable time together. It remains uncertain if they will pursue legal action against the hospital responsible for the mix-up at birth.
In a similar case in the UK, two women discovered they were switched at birth only after 50 years. The error occurred when the babies were placed in a hospital nursery before being handed to the wrong mothers.
