Ryan Reynolds is deeply committed to the Deadpool character, and for the first film, he went out of his way to include a specific detail.
Reynolds, who has been part of Hollywood for many years, is currently recognized for his portrayal of Deadpool, a role that suits him perfectly.
To be clear, he truly excelled the second time around, as the initial portrayal in X-Men Origins left much to be desired.
Though the 2016 Deadpool movie was a success both in terms of critics and box office performance, Reynolds focused on one more aspect that he felt was crucial for the film.
He was so passionate about it that he spent $10,000 of his own money to ensure his character, Wade Wilson, would wear a particular t-shirt.
As detailed in the film’s DVD commentary, Reynolds wanted Bea Arthur’s image to appear in the movie.
Her likeness was featured on a shirt that Reynolds’ character wore, and there is a straightforward explanation for this.
Bea Arthur was a celebrated American actress, especially famous for her part in the 1980s TV series, The Golden Girls.
The significance of this comes from Deadpool’s affinity for Arthur and the Golden Girls; he has claimed to be her biggest fan and frequently watched the show.
Reynolds reportedly made his request personally and donated the money to an unspecified charity, thus gaining permission from Arthur’s estate.
This gesture was revealed on Reddit, leaving many impressed by Reynolds’ attention to detail.
One user commented: “You can love him, hate him, find him annoying, or a little bit of all 3, but you can’t deny this dude’s passion for the project and his genuine love for Deadpool.
“He’ll do everything he can to see a vision through, whether it be a joke, a pop culture reference, or fan-service (and this is not just a reference to this isolated event).”
Another chimed in: “And this is just one of many reasons why fans love Ryan Reynolds.”
Someone else stated: “Ryan’s a legend for that. Deadpool wouldn’t be the same without her!”
Further emphasizing Bea Arthur’s importance to Deadpool in the comics, another person wrote: “No idea why, but Bea Arthur has been a long running bit in the Deadpool comics for years before the movie was made. Deadpool’s swords are named Arthur and Bea btw.”
